Hello all,
I decided to start a 'Poem of the Month', which is basically where you submit a poem to me and, if it gets chosen, it will be featured on my website as well as my twitter (@b4bypoet) for the whole month! Sounds like a good idea, no? In order for this to work, I need (you guessed it) submissions! So if you want to be featured on my website and twitter for the month of October, submit a poem to me via email and I'll choose ONE person out of however many submissions I get to be the poem of the month. It's that simple! This is a great way to get your work out there, and a good way for other poets/publications/lit mags to see your work and possibly reach out to you for their own magazines! Submissions will close on September 30th (sorry it's only open for a few days, I need it to be in order to make it in time for October)! Make sure to follow all of the instructions on the submissions page or your poem may not be counted. Click here to go to the submissions page. Best wishes, Ashley

To be completely honest, I've never made a blog before other than for my own personal use of reblogging photos on tumblr, so I had no idea what my first post should be about. So I did some brainstorming for a second and realized... You wouldn't go up to a person and just go right in with what you wanna talk about, right? You'd have to start by introducing yourself, which is exactly what I'm going to do. My name is Ashley (I sign my poems as a.m. because those are obviously my initials) and I'm a ninteen year old girl living in the sunshine state -- if that's what you wanna call it, of course. Because anyone who lives in Florida knows that the weather is anything but sunshine and rainbows 24/7, and to live here you have to be some sort of freak who can adapt to all kinds of weather except snow. I have one sister, who's sixteen, and a dog named Pepe who is a thirteen year old Pomeranian. In my spare time I love to (attempt to) write "good" poetry, play with my dog, and watch my favorite tv shows. I'm currently enrolled in a community college and am taking a creative writing class, along with an ASL class. I'm not too sure what I want to do yet, but I know it either has to do with writing or sign language since both of those are my passions. So far, I'm really enjoying my classes, especially creative writing, because I get to share my work with my classmates who also write, and it's a really great way for me to improve. I decided to start this blog because I want to take my writing as a whole more seriously. I also want to get feedback on my writing from others, which is something I think would really help me improve my writing. I believe that the first person you should work to please when writing a piece is yourself, and the second is your audience. If you don't like your work and aren't passionate about it, no one else is going to be able to feel the same passion you did when you wrote the piece. And really, if the reader doesn't get anything from the poem, is it really considered to be a "good" poem? I haven't figured out what I'll be posting on this blog yet. I'm currently a contributor for a magazine, so to post writing I would be sending to them on here would just be foolish. I was thinking you guys could submit me poems, and, if I get enough, I could do something like 'Poem of the Week/Month' and choose a poem/poet to be featured on my blog? Another thing I was thinking about posting is responses to writing prompts I find online/in books I have at home as a way to help me improve my writing. Or I could post rants on how I feel about specific topics you guys send me via the contact form under my 'contact' page. To be honest, I have to sit down and figure it all out but once I do, I think it's going to be great! If you have any ideas for me, leave a comment and I'll check it out. I really am encouraging you guys to comment on this post as well as future posts! Comments are available for a reason and they're much appreciated. Thank you in advance to everyone that does so. Also, make sure to check out my social media at the right side of the page for further ways to contact me if need be. |
